The Ombudsman for the Defence Forces Office fully respects your right to privacy, and will not collect any personal information about you on this website without your clear permission.

Our Role

The Ombudsman for the Defence Forces (ODF) is an independent statutory body, which was established in 2004 under the Ombudsman (Defence Forces) Act 2004.

Under the Ombudsman (Defence Forces) Act 2004, the Ombudsman for the Defence Forces can investigate complaints of serving members, retired members, former members and reserve members of the Irish Defence Forces.

Purpose of the ODF’s Privacy Statement

The ODF needs some personal data to fulfil its role. The ODF may processes (including collecting, storing and sharing) personal data about individuals who contact the ODF. The processing of this personal data is used during an investigation carried out by the Ombudsman for the Defence Forces.

Information about the ODF as Data Controller

The ODF is the Data Controller for personal data.

The ODF does not trade personal data for commercial purposes and will only disclose personal data if required by law.

This privacy statement has regard to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which came into force on 25 May 2018.

  • the right to have your personal data restricted or blocked from processing
