Complaint Procedure

Before you go to the on-line complaint form take a minute to check that your complaint meets the following requirements.

Requirement 1

The action I wish to complain about occurred after 30 November 2005.

Requirement 2

The action occurred, or I became aware of it, within the last 12 months.

Requirement 3

I have lodged a complaint about the action through the Redress of Wrongs procedure. The matter is not likely to be resolved and 28 days have passed since my complaint was lodged, or I am not satisfied with the outcome.

Requirement 3 applies only to serving members of the Defence Forces. It does not apply to former members of the Defence Forces.

Requirement 4

The action is not one connected to:

  • Legal proceedings initiated by me in a civil court
  • Security or military operations
  • Organisation, structure and deployment of the Defence Forces
  • Terms and conditions of employment
  • Administration of military prisons
  • An investigation under Chapter IV of Part V of the Defence Act or by a service tribunal.

If your complaint meets all these requirements please go to the complaint form.

If your complaint does not meet all these requirements the Ombudsman for the Defence Force cannot investigate your complaint.

However, the Ombudsman for the Defence Forces would welcome your feedback.

Please go to the Feedback form and give details of your grievance. The information you give in the feedback form is confidential. We will not share it with anyone else. If you don't want to use the on-line feedback form, you can write or telephone our office.

Remember, an investigation will not be initiated but the information is important. The information you give may help the Ombudsman recommend changes that will improve her service to Defence Force personnel at some future date.
